Roundtable on current social work challenges

Institute of Educology and Social Work Faculty of Arts University of Presov, organized on March 23, 2023 in cooperation with College of Social Work, University of Kentucky, European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW), The Centre for Education and Research of Seniors and the Slovak Sociological Society an international Roundtable on current social work challenges, which took place at University of Presov, Faculty of Arts, on March 23rd 2023, under the patronage of the Dean of Faculty of Arts: prof. PhDr. Beata Balogová, PhD., MBA and European Association of Schools of Social Work.

The main guest of the event was the dean of the College of Social Work, University of Kentucky, prof. J. Jay Miller, Ph.D, MSW, CSW.  College of Social Work, University of Kentucky has founded the world’s first Self-Care Lab – a laboratory focused on the research and practice of care for self-help professionals. The establishment of partner Self-Care Lab at the Faculty of Arts University of Prešov is one of the outcomes of the round table.

The aim of this event, which was supported by two scientific research projects (KEGA č. 027PU-4/2022 The transfer of digital technologies to the innovation of professional practice methodology in the undergraduate training of social work students and VEGA č. 1/0535/23 Integration of Ukrainian migrants and assessment of the difficult life situation associated with the crisis caused by the war conflict through the lens of social work), was to reflect on the current social work challenges in the national and international context with an emphasis on the self-care of social workers and their clients. The outputs of the Roundtable will be, in addition to ongoing research in the field of self-care, the establishment of a partner Laboratory of Self-care research and practice at the Institute of Education and of social work, Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov, whose ceremonial opening is one of the accompanying events of the International scientific symposium Current challenges for social work in June 2023.
